Enemas have been used for treatment of the large intestine for centuries past. Colon hydrotherapy is a well-known treatment brought to us from the United States, where for years it has proved its effectiveness in cleaning and curing the intestine.

The need for this system stems from the fact that nowadays hardly anyone's intestine is in perfect condition. Most of us suffer alterations in the composition of intestinal bacteria, i.e. disbiosis.

This causes faulty digestive processes, and encourages the formation of waste and toxic material. A new process is leading the body to poison itself, a process called self-intoxication. The following is a historical description from the Essenians' Gospel of Peace: "Find a pumpkin, the length of whose tendril is equal to the height of a man; take out the pulp and fill the marrow with water from a river heated by the sun. Hang it from a tree, kneel on the ground before the water angel and insert the end of the tendril into your posterior so that the water penetrates your bowels. Then let the water escape from your body, taking with it all Satan's impure and filthy substances, and you will see with your eyes and smell with your nose the stinking matter which fouls the temple of your body."

Doctors of various biological therapeutic persuasions have constantly recommended series of enema sessions. During the last century Kuhne spoke of the advisability of intestinal cleaning, and this century Rosendorff practised it for five decades.

The underwater intestinal bath should be mentioned as a forerunner to colon hydrotherapy. It is well nigh impossible nowadays to find treatments involving baths. The patient would sit in the bath and, using a special device, could insert water into the large intestine, open the valve and wash the contents of the intestine into a system of hoses. Immersion in water helped remove the contents, but the great disadvantage was that since the patient carried out the treatment alone, it was not always possible to deal with problem areas. It was also an extremely costly operation.
